Tips from our experts

Tulips can be stored dry in coolers at 32-33 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity for 3 days or up to 1 week before re-hydrating. Because fresh Tulips curl upwards looking for light if they are lying down in open boxes or on racks, they need to remain inside closed boxes and away from all lights. Process Tulips in a cooler and store at very low temperatures: Cut stems and discard any leaves that are separated, and hydrate the flowers in cool water with a low sugar solution and with their sleeves on to keep their stems straight. Note: Flowers in the Narcissus family, like Daffodils, cause Tulips to fade faster, so they should never be arranged together.
